Fern Britton embarked on her television career in the South West of England, where she began reading local news bulletins for both the BBC and Westward Television's nightly show "Westward Diary". Her mid-1980s stint at the BBC saw her read the national news on the BBC's Breakfast Time and occasionally present alongside Frank Bough on the sofa.
This was followed by a move to TVS, where she co-presented the South edition of Coast to Coast with Fred Dinenage. During her time at TVS, Fern also co-presented the networked "Airport 90" programmes with Nick Owen, and teamed up with Fred Dineage once again to present the last ever TV programme in the TVS region, "Goodbye to all That", on December 31st, 1992.
Fern's next stop was as entertainment correspondent for London Tonight, a post she held on the LWT and Carlton regions. However, this stint was short-lived, and she soon found herself at GMTV and later at BBC2, where she hosted the popular Ready Steady Cook, produced by Bazal Productions.
Since September 1999, Fern has been presenting the popular morning programme This Morning. Prior to her current co-host, Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, she served as a Friday guest host alongside John Leslie. The pair became main presenters in 2001, following R+J's departure to Channel Four. In 2002, her co-host became the renowned Phillip Schofield, with whom she continues to present the show to this day.
