Biography

Gabriel García Márquez, a renowned Latin-American author, is a pivotal figure in the development of magical realism, a literary movement that has garnered widespread acclaim. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the world of literature, García Márquez was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1982.

Prior to establishing himself as a prominent author, García Márquez pursued higher education in law and journalism at institutions in Bogotá and Cartagena. His academic background served as a solid foundation for his future endeavors.

García Márquez began his career in journalism in 1948, working as a journalist for several years. During the late 1950s, he served as a foreign correspondent in Europe, providing firsthand accounts of international events. His journalistic endeavors continued in the early 1960s, with stints in Cuba and New York.

In the 1960s, García Márquez expanded his professional horizons by working as a screenwriter, journalist, and publicist in Mexico City. His experiences in journalism and writing laid the groundwork for his future success as an author.

However, García Márquez's continued travel was eventually restricted due to his left-leaning political views. In response, he relocated to Mexico in the 1980s, where he continued to write and produce works that would go on to captivate audiences worldwide.
