Georgia Allen was a multifaceted individual who made a lasting impact in the fields of both education and entertainment.
Born in Beaumont, Texas, Allen's academic pursuits led her to Clark College, now Clark Atlanta University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1942. She further honed her skills in theater arts at the Atlanta University Summer Theater and the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Throughout her career, Allen was an outstanding actress, transitioning from regional and professional stage productions to television and films. She began performing in the 1960s with various community and professional groups, eventually accumulating nearly 30 film credits between 1972 and 2006.
Allen's television appearances included notable shows such as "In the Heat of the Night," "I'll Fly Away," and "Crossroads." Her film roles showcased her versatility, featuring performances in "Guyana Tragedy," "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," "Mayflower Madam," "Freedom Road," "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," "The Boy King," and "Madea's Family Reunion," among others.
For her dedication to the theater, Allen received several prestigious awards, including the Bronze Jubilee Award from WETV/Atlanta in 1979, the Ray McIver Award from the Just Us Theater in Atlanta in 1993, and the Legacy Award from Jomandi Productions in Atlanta in 1993.
Beyond her accomplishments in the entertainment industry, Allen was an educator who served the Atlanta Public School System for many years. She was also a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was married to her loving husband, Thaddeus S. Allen, for 67 years.
Georgia Allen passed away on January 11, 2014, at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and passion for her craft.
