Greg MacGillivray is a renowned filmmaker with a career spanning over four decades. He began making films at the tender age of 13 and went on to co-found MacGillivray Freeman Films with Jim Freeman in 1966. This partnership has led to the production of numerous award-winning films, with Greg's expertise in the giant-screen genre earning him the reputation as one of the most successful filmmakers in the industry.
Throughout his illustrious career, Greg has produced and directed over 50 films, including an impressive 35 IMAX productions. His first IMAX Theatre film, To Fly!, was released in 1976 and marked the beginning of his journey in the giant-screen genre. He has since gone on to produce some of the most enduring and critically acclaimed films in the industry, including The Living Sea and Dolphins, which both received Academy Award nominations.
Greg's impressive body of work has earned him numerous accolades, including two Academy Award nominations for Best Documentary Short Subject. He was also honored by the Giant Screen Theater Association in 2002 as one of the five most important contributors to the success of the industry. That same year, he received the Bradford Washburn Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Museum of Science in Boston, for his significant contributions to science education.
