Born in Washington, D.C. to parents Evelyn Loretta Itzin and Martin Joseph Itzin, Gregory and his family relocated to Burlington, Wisconsin at a young age, where his father served as mayor. Gregory's early interest in acting led him to study and train at the prestigious American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, with the goal of becoming a stage actor.
