Biography

Harry Wiere was born in Berlin, Germany in 1906, and grew up in a family with a rich tradition in show business. He was the oldest of three brothers, with Herbert and Sylvester Wiere following close behind. In 1922, the three brothers formed The Wiere Brothers comedy act and began performing in theatres and on stages, showcasing their impressive talents.

The Wiere Brothers were a comedy team like no other, with the ability to play numerous instruments, sing, dance, and perform acrobatics, all while keeping their audiences in stitches. Their act was a headliner on the theatre and night club circuit, and they even made appearances in films, although they were not used frequently. Their first film appearance was in Vogues of 1938 (1937),and they went on to appear in several other films throughout the 1940s and 1950s.

One of their most notable film appearances was in Road to Rio (1947),starring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, where their dancing and music routine was showcased. They also appeared in films such as Swing Shift Maisie (1943) and Hands Across the Border (1944),which claimed to "introduce the Wiere Brothers" to American audiences. Their last film appearance was in Double Trouble (1967),starring Elvis Presley.

In addition to their film appearances, The Wiere Brothers also starred in a television series called Oh! Those Bells (1962),which was commissioned by CBS and aired for one season. The show was initially directed by former Three Stooges director Jules White, and the brothers continued to appear in night clubs and regularly on television throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

After Sylvester Wiere's death in 1970, Harry and Herbert went into semi-retirement, but continued to work occasionally in television and on stage. Harry Wiere passed away in January 1992, and as of 1996, Herbert Wiere was semi-retired and residing in California.

The Wiere Brothers' legacy lives on as one of the most talented and entertaining comedy teams of their time, leaving behind a rich history of laughter and entertainment for generations to come.
