Helena Yea, a talented individual with a rich background, was born and educated in China before embarking on a journey to Canada in the 1950s as a flight attendant for Canadian Pacific Airlines. Her life took a dramatic turn when she married a Canadian pilot in 1953, and her passion for acting was ignited in 1985. Since then, she has maintained a steady acting career, appearing in over 40 roles across television and film.
Some of her most notable performances include her roles in the television series Cold Squad, 21 Jump Street alongside the then relatively unknown Johnny Depp, and General Hospital. Her television appearances also include CBC's 49th & Main. In addition to her television work, Yea has appeared in numerous feature films, such as Antitrust with Tim Robbins, and a memorable role in Happy Gilmore as Adam Sandler's one-night stand. She has also had a small role in Uwe Boll's Postal.
As a series regular, Yea made a significant impact on the Robson Arms television series from its inception, and her return in Season 3 as the caustic-tongued Tan matriarch was a highlight. Furthermore, Yea's commercial appearances have reached a global audience, airing nationally in the United States and Canada, as well as internationally.
Beyond her acting career, Yea is also a skilled musician and dedicated educator. She taught piano for an impressive 45 years, retiring in 2004. Her contributions to the music world were recognized when she was elected President of the B.C. Division of the prestigious Canadian Music Competitions in 1976 and 1977, and as one of the National Directors of the organization.
