Hugo's early life was marked by his upbringing on Sydney's picturesque North Shore, where he spent his formative years attending the local primary school before transitioning to Barker College in Hornsby at the commencement of grade five.
Throughout his school years, Hugo remained an active and enthusiastic participant in a wide range of sports and extracurricular activities, showcasing his versatility and aptitude for various pursuits. However, it was his passion for the dramatic arts that truly set him apart, as he chose to study this elective subject in depth during his Higher School Certificate (HSC) studies.
Following the completion of his secondary education, Hugo attempted to secure a spot at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA),although his initial attempt was unsuccessful due to his age. Undeterred, he spent 2006 traveling and honing his craft before successfully gaining entry into NIDA in 2007.
Upon completing the four-year NIDA course, Hugo made a significant impact on the Australian arts scene, featuring in a variety of productions, including his notable role as Fish Lamb in Tim Winton's Cloudstreet in 2011.
