James Andrew Fraser was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, to a family of Scottish, Irish, and Flemish descent. His father, Donald Andrew Fraser, was a retired executive of a Canadian grocery store chain, while his mother, Bernice Ina (nee VanDeKerckhove),was a nurse. Fraser's fascination with acting began when a babysitter told him that Daniel Day-Lewis was "just pretending" in the film "My Left Foot". He then started acting in school productions, but in high school, he chose sports over theater, considering acting an impossible dream.
However, Fraser's passion for acting resurfaced when he auditioned for a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and was cast as Demetrius. He continued to act in school plays and eventually attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Despite his interest in theater, Fraser initially pursued a career in finance, playing rugby and working in finance in Calgary.
After injuring his shoulder for the second time, Fraser rekindled his passion for acting by getting involved with Theatre Antigonish, where he acted in six productions. He eventually quit his finance job and moved to Toronto to pursue his acting career. Fraser's early career in Toronto involved acting in film, television, and commercials, as well as producing and directing his own writing, which earned him several awards.
Fraser's breakthrough came when he was cast in the web series "TAPE", which he also directed, co-wrote, and produced. The series was available on Amazon Prime for two years and is now available on Amazon VOD. He has since appeared in numerous films, including "The Enemy Within", "Bull", "Blue Bloods", and "The Blacklist", as well as the web series "Dark Horse", which has over 500K followers on BRTBTV.
Fraser has also been involved in several short films, including "Buffalo", which earned him a nomination for "Best Actor" at the Madrid International Film Festival and the Prague International Indie Film Festival. He has also appeared on the Instagram account @_lion_eyez, inspired by his short film of the same name, which is in development.
Additionally, Fraser has snagged a lead role in the "Gabriel's Inferno" series, based on the NY Times Bestselling Books, and has appeared in all nine films, which are now streaming on Passionflix, a romance streaming service founded by Tosca Musk. Fraser's upcoming projects include the film "Tuesday's Flu", alongside Oscar-nominated Jackie Earle Haley, Ross Marquand, and Daniel Roebuck.
