As a tag team specialist, Jay Briscoe holds the record for 11-time ROH World Tag Team Champion, alongside his brother Mark Briscoe, with whom he also won the IWGP Tag Team Championship in NJPW. Furthermore, they have been part of three Six-Man Tag Team Championship teams between ROH and NJPW.
As a singles wrestler, Jay Briscoe is one of only four wrestlers to have held the ROH World Championship twice, joining the ranks of Austin Aries, Adam Cole, and Jay Lethal.
Jay and Mark Briscoe made their debut in Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) at Delaware Invasion on January 20, 2001, taking part in a three-on-one handicap match against Trent Acid. Their early career in CZW led to their participation in the inaugural Best of the Best event, a tournament showcasing junior heavyweight wrestling.
In this tournament, Jay and Mark Briscoe advanced past the first round in a three-way match with Nick Mondo, where the stipulation was that whoever took the fall would be eliminated. They then faced each other in the second round, with Jay emerging victorious and advancing further.
This match is widely regarded by fans as the best of the tournament and played a significant role in launching the brothers' careers, as they were new to the independent circuit and very young at the time.
