Jeff Roop, a talented individual from Montreal, Canada, was born to a French Canadian mother and a father from the Maritimes. After completing his education, Roop co-founded the critically acclaimed Arbat Theatre Company in his hometown, Montreal. This marked the beginning of his professional acting career, which has since been marked by a wide range of notable roles in film and television. His first professional acting credit was on the popular soap opera Guiding Light, followed by appearances in films such as Free Money, starring the legendary Marlon Brando, and Vampire High, a series that was syndicated worldwide.
Roop's breakthrough role came in 2014 with the film Backcountry, opposite Missy Peregrym and Eric Balfour, which he also executive produced. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and went on to become IFC's top-grossing film of the year, earning a 92% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. His performance in the film received widespread critical acclaim, solidifying his position as a talented and versatile actor.
In recent years, Roop has continued to appear in a variety of film and television projects, including the critically acclaimed Quebec film Falcon Lake, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and the ESPN feature Codebreakers, opposite Scott Glenn. He has also made guest appearances on popular television shows such as Suits, DC Comics' Titans, Ransom, CSI: NY, Without a Trace, Numb3rs, Saving Hope, Frankie Drake, and Heartland.
In addition to his acting work, Roop has also ventured into writing and producing. He co-wrote, produced, and starred in the short film Prairie Dogs, which won Best Canadian Short at the Lakeshorts Film Festival and was an official selection at the New York Television Festival. The film has since been optioned as a series, titled Northern Lights, with a teleplay written by Roop himself.
When he's not busy with his acting and writing pursuits, Roop enjoys playing hockey, practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and indulging in his love of books, film, travel, and electric cars.
