Jeff Bezos was born in San Francisco, California, and spent his childhood in San Jose, where he was the youngest of three siblings. His father, Bill, was a renowned mathematician who worked at NASA's Ames Research Center until his untimely death in 1969. Jeff's mother, Helen, a Stanford graduate and retired registered nurse, still resides in the Bay Area. His brother, John, is a geophysicist, and his sister, Janet, is a probate attorney.
After initially exploring a career in broadcasting, Jeff pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1985.
