Jimel's early years were spent in Springfield, Massachusetts, where his love for sports and film in America was nurtured. This fascination with sports led him to initially pursue a career in athletics, and he eventually became a wide-receiver for the University of South Florida from 2012 to 2015.
After a successful collegiate athletic career, Jimel decided to redirect his focus towards his creative passions in 2016. His decision proved to be a pivotal moment, as he soon landed a role in the Netflix hit series "Mindhunter". This was followed by his first recurring role as Ray Kelly in the critically acclaimed Peabody Award-winning OWN TV series "David Makes Man", produced by Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, and written/produced by Oscar winner Tarell Alvin McCraney.
Jimel's impressive track record of working with renowned writers and directors continued with his major debut recurring role as Jamaal "Silk" Wilkes on HBO's TV series "Winning Time", written and directed by Adam McKay, Max Borenstein, and Rodney Barnes. The series is set to premiere in March 2022.
