Joanna's early life was shaped by her upbringing in Scotland, a formative experience that would later influence her artistic endeavors. She pursued her passion for the performing arts at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where she honed her craft under the guidance of esteemed instructors. It was during her time at the college that she caught the attention of renowned casting director Emma Style, who recognized Joanna's immense talent and potential. This serendipitous encounter led to her first professional role as Cathy in The Runaway (2010),a production that boasted an impressive ensemble cast, including Keith Allen, Ken Stott, Alan Cumming, and Jack O'Connell.
Joanna's impressive range as a performer has been showcased in a variety of TV and film projects, including the critically acclaimed Dancing on the Edge (2013),The Paradise (2012),Banished (2015),Retribution (2016),What Maisie Knew (2012),and Warrior (2019). Her stage work has also been met with widespread acclaim, with notable performances in Aleksei Arbuzov's "The Promise" (London's Donmar Warehouse, 2012) as Lika, Richard Greenberg's "The Dazzle" (Soho Theatre, 2015-16) as Milly, alongside Andrew Scott and David Dawson, as well as her remarkable Shakespearean performances as Desdemona in Othello (2015) and Lady Anne in Richard III (2016) at the Almeida Theatre, alongside Hugh Quarshie and Ralph Fiennes in the title roles respectively.
