Joey Cramer, born Deleriyes August Joe Fisher Cramer on August 23, 1973, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, embarked on his acting career in the Sci-Fi movie Runaway (1984),directed by renowned writer Michael Crichton, who also wrote the screenplay for Jurassic Park (1993).
The year 1986 proved to be a pivotal one in Cramer's career, as he appeared in a brief role as young Broud in The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986),alongside Scott Bakula in the Disney TV movie I-Man (1986),and took on the lead role in the Sci-Fi film Flight of the Navigator (1986),directed by Randal Kleiser, who is also known for his work on the iconic musical Grease (1978). During this period, Cramer also made a guest appearance in a double episode of the popular TV series Murder, She Wrote (1984).
In 1987, Cramer's acting career came to a temporary halt as he chose to focus on his studies. However, he attempted to make a comeback in 1996 with a brief, uncredited role in It's My Party (1996).
Tragedy struck when Cramer found himself at odds with the law. On May 1, 2016, he was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Sechelt, British Columbia, in connection with a local bank robbery that took place on April 28. On June 8, 2016, he pleaded guilty to charges of bank robbery, wearing a disguise to commit a crime, fleeing the police, and dangerous driving.
In 2018, a feature documentary about Cramer's life, Life After the Navigator (2020),began production, directed by Lisa Downs and released worldwide in November 2020.
