John Kim was born and raised in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, where he spent his early years in grade school focusing on extra-curricular athletics, including basketball, tennis, and Australian rules football.
It wasn't until he entered high school that John's interests shifted towards the arts, and at the age of 15, he attended a free performing class at a local acting studio on the urging of a close friend.
This chance encounter led to John being spotted by an agent who works with extras, and soon he found himself appearing in local TV shows.
His first audition and big break came when he landed a role in the Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg war miniseries "The Pacific", which tells the incredible story of US Marines during the Pacific War and the struggles and obstacles they faced.
John played the role of a young Japanese soldier in the series, and soon after completing "The Pacific", he was signed by a larger talent agency.
Within a week of signing, John booked the role of "Dale McGregor" on Australia's longest-running TV series Neighbors, a character he continued to play for two years while still in high school.
Following the completion of Neighbors, John went on to shoot a series regular role on the TNT series The Librarians, a follow-up to the network's hit movie trilogy starring Rebecca Romijn and John Larroquette.
