John Krasinski, a renowned American actor, is most notably recognized for his portrayal of the lovable and sarcastic character Jim Halpert on the popular NBC sitcom, The Office. For his outstanding performance in the ensemble, he received the prestigious Screen Actors Guild Award in 2007 and 2008.
Born on October 20, 1979, in Newton, Massachusetts, John is the youngest of three brothers to parents Mary Claire Doyle, a nurse, and Ronald Krasinski, an internist. His father hails from Polish descent, while his mother is of Irish ancestry.
John's initial foray into the world of acting began with a satirical high school play, penned and cast by his classmate B.J. Novak. Interestingly, he also shared a Little League baseball team with Novak, who would later become a writer and co-star on The Office.
After graduating from Newton South High School in 1997, John initially planned to pursue an English major and deferred his first semester of college to teach English in Costa Rica. He eventually attended Brown University, where he graduated with honors in English in 2001. John then went on to study at the prestigious Eugene O'Neill National Theatre Institute in Waterford, Connecticut.
During the summer of 2000, John interned as a scriptwriter on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He made his big-screen debut in 2002 and went on to play various small roles, including "Ben" in Kinsey and "Bob Flynn" in Duane Hopwood.
John's breakthrough role came in 2005, when he played "Corporal Harrigan" in the film Jarhead, directed by Sam Mendes. He then appeared as "Ben" in the romantic comedy The Holiday, opposite Nancy Meyers. John also voiced the character "Lancelot" in Shrek the Third and co-starred alongside Robin Williams and Mandy Moore in the romantic comedy License to Wed.
In addition to his acting career, John has also ventured into writing and directing. He adapted the eponymous collection of short stories by David Foster Wallace, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, into a feature film in 2009. He went on to direct and write The Hollars, a family drama, and A Quiet Place, a well-received horror film that boasted one of the biggest opening weekends for the genre.
John is married to the talented English actress Emily Blunt, with whom he shares two children. Despite claiming Los Angeles as his home, he frequently travels to New York City and his hometown of Newton, Massachusetts.
