John McPherson's Life and Career: A Path of Illumination
Born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California, John McPherson was the only child of Audra Henry McPherson (1897-1974) and Antoinette Pellant (1910-1988). He attended Mira Costa High School, graduating in 1959.
McPherson's career in the film industry began in 1965 as a gaffer, later transitioning to cinematography for television in 1977. His work on notable shows such as Kojak, The Incredible Hulk, Amazing Stories, and Baywatch earned him recognition. He also provided cinematography for television films and theatrical films, including Jaws: The Revenge, *batteries not included, and Short Circuit 2.
In addition to his work as a cinematographer, McPherson also directed television films and TV episodes. He was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, joining in 1980, and served on the Director's Guild of America from 1984 until his passing.
McPherson's educational background included a Bachelor's degree from American State University, earned in 1996, and a Master's degree in film, received in 1998.
After retiring in 2001, McPherson passed away unexpectedly at his home in Westlake Village, California in 2007, just nine days shy of his 66th birthday.
