Rocky Romero, a renowned Cuban professional wrestler, has made a lasting impact in the world of wrestling under his ring name and as the fourth incarnation of Black Tiger. As Rocky Romero, he formed a dynamic tag team with Ricky Reyes, known as The Havana Pitbulls (formerly Los Cubanitos). In Ring of Honor, he was a key member of the No Remorse Corps alongside Roderick Strong and Davey Richards, with the duo holding the ROH World Tag Team Championship at one point.
Romero's wrestling style is characterized by his use of stiff shoot-style kicks and innovative armlock variations, showcasing his technical prowess. He began his wrestling career in 1997, training under the guidance of Antonio Inoki at the NJPW Dojo in Los Angeles. Over the years, his career has taken him through various promotions in the Southern California region, Mexico, and Japan, where he has enjoyed significant success.
In Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL),the world's oldest wrestling promotion, Romero found success, and in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW),he was chosen to become the fourth incarnation of Black Tiger, a villainous gaijin opponent of Tiger Mask (Tiger Mask IV). On October 8, 2005, Romero, as Black Tiger, defeated Tiger Mask for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, only to lose the title to his nemesis four months later.
Romero made his debut in Pro Wrestling Noah on March 4, 2007, facing Mushiking Terry, casting doubt on the future of the Black Tiger persona. However, he did compete as Black Tiger in August 2007 in Chikara, vying for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship against champion Mike Quackenbush. At NJPW's Resolution '09 on April 5, Romero lost in a mask vs. title match against Tiger Mask, effectively ending his tenure as Black Tiger.
