Biography

Johnnie Wade, also known as Johnny Wade, was born in the vibrant neighborhood of Bethnal Green, London, in the year 1933. He spent his formative years in Manchester until the age of sixteen, after which he pursued an apprenticeship in electrical work with British and European Airways.

Following his national service in the air force, where he discovered his hidden talent for singing, Johnnie transitioned to a career in the entertainment industry. He worked as a cabin crew member, market trader, and furniture salesman, all while honing his skills as a performer.

His breakthrough in the world of entertainment came when he won a talent contest, leading to his position as the vocalist for the Ronnie Keane band. He went on to perform at renowned venues such as Hammersmith Palais and the Condor Club, solidifying his reputation as a talented singer.

Johnnie's first major television appearance was in the popular soap opera "Compact," which was set in the offices of a women's magazine. His character, Stan, was also a singer, allowing Johnnie to release a record. This was just the beginning of his extensive television career, which spanned many decades and featured appearances in numerous shows, including sitcoms.

One of his most notable roles was as Roger, the beleaguered handyman, in the sitcom "You're Only Young Twice," which was set in a home for retired ladies.
