Jonathan Sayer is a multifaceted British creative force, excelling as both an actor and playwright. He is a co-founder of Mischief Theatre, a renowned theatre company responsible for a string of successful productions, including The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, Groan Ups, Magic Goes Wrong, and The Goes Wrong Show.
In 2008, Sayer, along with Henry Lewis and Henry Shields, co-founded Mischief Theatre while they were studying a drama foundation course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. This marked the beginning of a fruitful creative partnership that would yield numerous award-winning productions.
In 2012, Sayer co-wrote The Play That Goes Wrong with Lewis and Shields, which premiered at The Old Red Lion, Islington. Sayer's impressive performance as Dennis Tyde earned him a spot in both the original London cast and the original Broadway cast. The following year, Peter Pan Goes Wrong premiered at The Pleasance Theatre, with Sayer once again taking on the role of Dennis.
In 2016, Sayer, Lewis, and Shields brought The Comedy About a Bank Robbery to the Criterion Theatre, with Sayer playing Warren Slax. This was followed by the premiere of Magic Goes Wrong at the Quays Theatre in August 2019, in which Sayer played Mikey. The production subsequently went on tour.
Sayer's impressive resume also includes the premiere of Groan Ups at Vaudeville Theatre in September 2019, in which he played Simon. The production was initially intended to run for a year but was curtailed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
In addition to his stage work, Sayer has also made a name for himself in television. He played Dennis in a production of Peter Pan Goes Wrong aired by BBC1 in 2016 and reprised the role in A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong the following year. Sayer also starred in BBC1's The Goes Wrong Show, which aired twelve episodes between December 2019 and November 2021.
