Joseph Martin McFadden, born in Glasgow, Scotland, to Irish parents, began his acting career at the tender age of 12 when a talent scout from the popular detective series 'Taggart' visited his school, Holyrood Secondary, and invited him to play the role of the son of a murder victim.
This initial exposure led to a plethora of Scottish stage, film, and television roles, including the lead character Prentice McHoan in 'The Crow Road', for which he received a BAFTA nomination. His subsequent move to London marked a significant milestone in his career, as he joined the original London production of the Tony Award-winning musical Rent, taking on the role of the narrator, Mark Cohen.
Throughout his illustrious career, McFadden has had the privilege of appearing in notable stage productions for esteemed institutions such as The Royal Court, National Theatre Of Scotland, and even played the titular role of 'Aladdin' at The Old Vic theatre, opposite the esteemed Sir Ian McKellen.
In addition to his stage accomplishments, McFadden has left an indelible mark on television, having portrayed memorable characters in various hit shows, including the lead policeman, PC Joe Mason, in ITV's 'Heartbeat', as well as the exceptional trauma surgeon Raffaelo (Raf) Di Lucca in BBC hospital drama 'Holby City'.
In a particularly memorable moment, McFadden captivated 13 million viewers when he lifted the glitterball in the BBC dancing competition 'Strictly Come Dancing' in 2017.
