Joshua D. Maurer is an award-winning film producer, widely regarded as one of Hollywood's most prominent makers of historical dramas and literary adaptations. He has earned a reputation for meticulous research, historical accuracy, and a passion for projects of exceptional quality and excellence.
As the president of City Entertainment, a motion picture and television production company, Joshua has collaborated with his wife and producing partner Alixandre Witlin to produce films and television movies, miniseries, and series that have garnered over 32 Emmy nominations and wins, including seven Golden Globe, WGA, DGA, SAG, NAACP, Satellite, PGA, Prism, Gracie Award, Imagen, and Alma honors.
Joshua is the only producer in the history of the Producers Guild of America to be awarded two nominations in the same year in the same category for the prestigious David L. Wolper Producer of the Year Award for Longform Television.
In addition to his producing work, Joshua is also a screenwriter, having written for numerous networks, including HBO, Showtime, ABC, NBC, CBS, FX, Fox, AMC, A&E, Lifetime, Hallmark Hall of Fame, Paramount, Lionsgate, FTVS, Sony, Spike, and Miramax.
As an actor, Joshua is best known for his groundbreaking portrayal of Private Roger Horn in the acclaimed CBS television series Tour of Duty. Born and raised in New Jersey, Joshua grew up in the town of West Orange. He began his professional training with Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis and then received his B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in history and drama. He later went on to star in a number of television movies and films. Novelist Paul Auster is his cousin.
