Justin K. Thompson is a renowned director at Sony Pictures Animation, currently collaborating with fellow director Bob Persichetti to bring the highly-anticipated conclusion to the groundbreaking Spider-Verse trilogy, "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse".
Thompson was instrumental in developing the innovative visual style of the Spider-Verse films, serving as the production designer on the Academy Award-winning "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse". He then joined the directorial team on the Academy Award-nominated sequel alongside Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers.
For his outstanding work on the Spider-Verse films, Thompson has received numerous accolades, including two Annie Awards from ASIFA-Hollywood for Best Production Design and Best Direction. He and his fellow directors were also honored with Variety's Creative Impact in Animation Directing Award, and named 2023 Filmmakers of the Year by Consequence of Sound.
In addition to his work on the Spider-Verse films, Thompson has served as the production designer on Sony Pictures Animation's "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and its sequel.
With over 20 years of experience in the animation industry, Thompson has made significant contributions to some of the most groundbreaking television programs. Over the past decade, he has transitioned to visual development and production design on digitally animated feature films.
Prior to his work at Sony Pictures Animation, Thompson spent five years at Cartoon Network, where he received various credits on such television programs as "The Powerpuff Girls" (key background design/storyboard artist) and "Samurai Jack" (key background designer). He also served as a visual development artist/background supervisor on Cartoon Network's critically acclaimed hit, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars", for which he was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.
Thompson was also part of the creative team that brought "The Powerpuff Girls" to the big screen, serving as both visual development artist and key background designer on the feature.
