Kal's artistic journey began with a deep dive into cinematography, studying under the guidance of renowned professionals Billy Williams, BSC, and Christian Berger. Williams is notable for his work on iconic films such as "The Exorcist" and "Gandhi," while Berger is celebrated for his contributions to "Caché" and "White Ribbon."
Prior to pursuing a career in filmmaking, Kal worked as a Paris-based photographer, honing their visual storytelling skills. Subsequently, Kal relocated to London to further their education in acting and directing.
Kal's impressive filmography boasts several accolades, including the TCM Turner Classics Special Jury Prize at London for "The Gift" (formerly titled "The Birthday"). This film competed in esteemed festivals such as Austin, Florida, and LA Shorts, solidifying Kal's reputation as a talented filmmaker.
Another notable achievement is the release of "Carousel" in Competition at Berlin, Oberhausen, Edinburgh, and Brest, with international sales handled by Shorts.tv and L'Agence Court Métrage in France.
Kal's writing skills have also been recognized, with "The Soldier" being selected as an AFF Second Rounder and a previous draft earning a Final Draft Big Break Semi-Finalist spot. Additionally, "Stones" won the ScriptBiz Screenplay Award at Rhode Island and is a Page Awards Semi-Finalist.
Kal's recent accomplishments include being a recipient of the Canada Council's Concept to Realization Grant, further cementing their status as a rising talent in the industry.
