Kasper Barfoed, a renowned Danish writer and director, was born in the vibrant city of Copenhagen in the year 1972. Prior to his transition to the world of filmmaking, Barfoed's early career was marked by his involvement in the performing arts, where he took to the stage, captivating audiences with his talents in the musical adaptation of Oliver Twist and in the directing debut of the esteemed actress Liv Ullmann, Sofie.
As he grew older, Barfoed's creative pursuits shifted behind the camera, where he honed his skills directing commercials and working as a second unit director on feature films. This experience ultimately led to the creation of his award-winning short film, The Performance, which in turn paved the way for his feature film debut in 2004 with the children's film My Sister's Kids in Egypt, a movie that would go on to become one of the highest-grossing Danish films of the decade.
Barfoed's subsequent projects further solidified his reputation as a talented filmmaker, as he went on to direct the award-winning children's film The Lost Treasure of the Knights Templar. In 2008, he took on the thriller The Candidate, starring the acclaimed actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas, and in 2013, he directed the thriller The Numbers Station, featuring the talents of John Cusack and Malin Akerman.
In 2015, Barfoed co-wrote and directed the drama Sommeren '92, showcasing his versatility as a filmmaker. Most recently, in 2017, he created the television series Below the Surface, further expanding his repertoire as a writer and director.
