Person Biography:
Spiro, a talented and accomplished filmmaker, earned dual Bachelor's Degrees in Political Science and Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master's Degree in Film Production from the University of Texas at Austin.
Starting his career with the award-winning short film The Convict, based on a short story by James Lee Burke, Spiro then went on to write and direct several feature films for Roger Corman's Concorde/New Horizons.
Transitioning to television, Spiro directed numerous episodes, pilots, and features, including one hour drama and half-hour single-camera comedy pilots and episodes for both network and cable.
His notable work in episodic television includes multiple episodes of acclaimed series such as Weeds, Arrested Development, Ugly Betty, Everybody Hates Chris, The O.C., and Gilmore Girls, as well as original television pilots like Do Over, Summerland, The Jersey, and Jonas.
In 2008, Spiro directed the action/comedy feature Minutemen, which received a nomination from the Director's Guild for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children's Programs. The following year, he directed Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, which was the highest rated program on cable in 2009 and won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Program.
Currently, Spiro resides and works in Los Angeles with his wife, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, and their dog Zuma.
