Lin Oeding is a renowned American director and stunt coordinator with a rich background in mixed martial arts and gymnastics. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he pursued his passion for filmmaking at The University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film Directing and Screenwriting.
Lin's early career in the entertainment industry began with his work on the television series "Walker: Texas Ranger" alongside Chuck Norris, leveraging his unique blend of martial arts and gymnastics skills. This initial exposure led to a decade-long journey of studying under esteemed directors on numerous high-profile projects, including "The Last Samurai", "Inception", and "Star Trek", as well as over 100 other movies and television shows.
While stunt coordinating "Straight Outta Compton", Lin's pre-vision caught the attention of director F. Gary Gray, who subsequently invited him to direct the 2nd unit for the Ferrari chase sequence and the opening crack house breach. This opportunity marked a significant turning point in Lin's career, demonstrating his versatility and skill as a director.
Following his work on "Straight Outta Compton", Lin created his own short film, "Lifted", starring Joel Edgerton. The success of "Lifted" and his previous shorts catapulted his career to new heights, with both feature films and television projects vying for his attention.
Lin made his feature directorial debut with the action-thriller "Braven", starring Jason Momoa and Stephen Lang. The movie's release in 2018 garnered widespread critical acclaim, with notable publications such as The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, LA Times, and NY Post praising Lin's sharp camera aesthetic, fluid action blocking, and effective storytelling – skills honed from his background in theater directing and stunt coordination.
