Malcolm Gets was born in the vibrant city of Chicago, but his childhood was spent in New Jersey, where he resided until the tender age of five. His parents, both of English descent, played a significant role in shaping his early years. His mother, Lispbeth, was a dedicated special educationist, while his father, Terence, worked as a college textbook representative for a renowned Boston-based publisher and was an avid marathon runner. Malcolm's family consisted of one younger sister, one older sister, and one older brother, all of whom contributed to a lively and nurturing environment.
Malcolm's academic journey was marked by a propensity for skipping grades. He attended Fort Clarke Middle School, where he skipped the 8th grade, and later enrolled in Buchholz High School, where he skipped the 12th grade as well. At the tender age of 16, he began his higher education at the University of Florida, where he earned a scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre. Malcolm further honed his craft by completing his graduate studies at Yale Drama School, where he received his Master of Arts degree.
Malcolm's multifaceted talents include being a singer, dancer, conductor, composer, classically trained pianist, vocal director, choreographer, and actor. His musical inclinations began at a young age, with him starting to practice the piano at the age of eight and singing at the age of 14. His early aspirations were to become a classical pianist, and he worked various jobs to hone his skills, including stints as a stockboy at Barney's, a puppeteer at Radio City Music Hall, and a pianist at "Cats" auditions, weddings, bar-mitzvahs, and concert halls.
Malcolm's love for music knows no bounds, with classical music holding a special place in his heart. He is also an avid cook, reader, and Shakespeare enthusiast. Growing up, his favorite television show was the iconic sitcom "All in the Family" (1971),and his favorite composer is the renowned Stephen Sondheim.
