His remarkable career began in 1971 when he founded the renowned Bison Archives in Los Angeles, a premier repository of research and photographs dedicated to the preservation of motion picture history.
Prior to establishing the Bison Archives, Wanamaker played a pivotal role in the formation of the American Film Institute's facilities in Beverly Hills in 1969. He went on to serve as a staff member for the AFI for a period of seven years, further solidifying his reputation as a leading authority in the field.
Throughout his illustrious career, Wanamaker has authored over a dozen books and has contributed numerous articles to the Los Angeles Times, as well as providing insightful interviews for various documentaries related to motion picture history.
In addition to his impressive publishing credentials, Wanamaker is also a founder of the Los Angeles International Film Exposition and was instrumental in establishing The American Cinematheque.
