Maria João Bastos, a highly acclaimed and respected actress, initially rose to prominence in the European and international film industry with Raul Ruiz's critically acclaimed "Mysteries of Lisbon" in 2010. This success led to roles in notable films such as Valeria Sarmiento's "Lines of Wellington" (2012) and Michael Sturminger's "The Casanova Variations" (2014),alongside the renowned John Malkovich.
However, before her international breakthrough, Maria João Bastos was already an established and respected figure in the Portuguese and Brazilian television and film industries. She began her career in the late 1990s, starring in popular TV series, soap operas, and TV movies in Portugal. Her success in Portugal led to an invitation from TV Globo to move to Brazil, where she became the star of several successful soap operas, living in Rio de Janeiro for five years.
