Marie Losier, a multifaceted filmmaker and curator, has made a significant impact in the art world with her work spanning over two decades. Born in France, Losier has spent the past 20 years in New York City, where she has established herself as a prominent figure in the film and art communities.
Losier's academic background is impressive, having studied literature at the University of Nanterre in France and fine arts at Hunter College in New York City. Her academic pursuits have clearly influenced her filmmaking style, which is characterized by its whimsical, poetic, and dreamlike quality.
Losier's body of work is comprised of film portraits that explore the lives and careers of avant-garde directors, musicians, and composers. Her subjects have included the Kuchar brothers, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad, Genesis P-Orridge, Alan Vega, and Felix Kubin, among others. Losier is currently on an art residency in Paris, where she is in post-production for her new feature on Cassandro, The Exotico, as well as a multi-faceted film (installation, film, and performance) on the German composer and musician Felix Kubin.
In addition to her film work, Losier is also preparing a retrospective of all her films for the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, which is set to open in November 2018. This retrospective will provide a comprehensive overview of Losier's impressive body of work and cement her status as a leading figure in the film and art communities.
