Biography

Marie Rosulkova was a renowned Czech actress, born on December 17, 1901, in Pilsen, and passed away on May 15, 1993, in Prague. She began her acting career at the age of 19, privately trained by Marie Laudová-Hořicová, a bank clerk.

Rosulkova's professional theater career spanned over six decades, with her first performances in Pilsen, České Budějovice, and the Zemské divadlo in Brno. She gained recognition for her portrayal of mature women, often taking on roles that showcased her comedic talents. Some of her notable performances include Frank Wedekind's "Lulu" in 1924, and roles in "The Snack Shop" and many other productions.

In the 1930s, Rosulkova joined the ensemble Vlasta Buriana, and later worked at the Vinohrady Theater from 1934 to 1949. She then moved to the Prague Municipal Theaters, where she remained until 1982. During this period, she received a character role and developed a penchant for parody, particularly in her portrayal of Spanish Queen Maria Luisa and Frank Tetauer's "Don Manuel and Marie Luisa."

In 1960, Rosulkova created the iconic character of the Italian matron Filumena Marturano in Eduard De Filip's comedy. Her early years in the industry saw her take on the role of the eccentric, yet gentle and wise Toula Maude in Harold and Maude's successful comedy (1976).

Rosulkova's film career began in the late 1930s, but it was her comedic roles as grandmothers and eccentric older women in the 1970s that brought her the greatest popularity. She also appeared in television, with her most famous role being that of the detective author's grandmother in the series "Such a Normal Family."

In 1948, Rosulkova signed a call for Pro-Communist intelligence ahead, a step that supported the Communist coup. In 1966, she was named a deserving artist. She is buried at the Vyšehrad Cemetery in a special department designed for nuns, located on the east side at the entrance.
