MARK A. ALTMAN is a television and motion picture writer/producer/director. He is currently the showrunner/executive producer of the upcoming adaptation of the bestselling book series, Deathlands. Previously, he served as showrunner of the sci-fi adventure series, Pandora, and Co-Executive Producer of The Librarians, Agent X, Castle, and Necessary Roughness.
Altman recently wrote and directed the hit CW documentary special, Best Christmas Movies Ever, which premiered in December 2024. He wrote and produced the critically acclaimed CW docu-series, Greatest Geek Year Ever: 1982, spotlighting the legendary motion pictures of the year 1982, which recently debuted on Blu-Ray and DVD as a #1 bestseller on the Amazon documentary charts.
His first motion picture was the award-winning, Free Enterprise, starring William Shatner and Eric McCormack, which he wrote and produced and for which he won the WGA Award for Best New Writer at the AFI Los Angeles Film Festival prior to its theatrical release. He is also a producer of the House of the Dead series, based on the videogame from Sega, released by Lionsgate.
Altman has written numerous books, including the bestselling two-volume book, The 50 Year Mission: The Complete Uncensored, Unauthorized History of Star Trek, which was released by St. Martin's Press in hardcover to unanimous critical acclaim. His follow-up on Battlestar Galactica, So Say We All, was released in hardcover by Tor Forge in 2018. His oral history of the James Bond films, Nobody Does It Better, was released in 2020 by Macmillan. His most recent volume was They Shouldn't Have Killed His Dog: The Complete Oral History Of John Wick and Gun-Fu.
In addition, Altman has sold numerous pilots, including to Sony Pictures Television, USA Networks, El Rey Networks, and Syfy. He has also sold feature scripts to such studios as Dreamworks SKG, Beacon Pictures, and Constantin Films. Altman has produced the big-budget film adaptation of the bestselling video game, DOA: Dead Or Alive, which was released by Dimension Films.
Altman is also the host of several podcasts, including Inglorious Treksperts, one of the largest and most successful podcasts devoted to Star Trek. He also co-hosts The 4:30 Movie and The Kids Stay In The Podcast.
He is a former journalist and has contributed to various newspapers and magazines, including The Boston Globe, Written By, L'Cinefage, Film Threat, and The Guardian.
