Matt Cameron is an accomplished American musician and songwriter, renowned for his exceptional drumming skills and contributions to the iconic Seattle Grunge Rock bands Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Cameron's music career began with his stint as the drummer for the Seattle band Skin Yard, but it was his association with Soundgarden, formed in 1986 with Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, and Hiro Yamamoto, that catapulted him to international fame.
Throughout his tenure with Soundgarden, which spanned roughly a decade until the band's dissolution in 1997, Cameron was instrumental in shaping the band's sound and songwriting process. His work on albums such as 'Superunknown' (1994) and 'Down on the Upside' (1996) earned critical acclaim and commercial success, cementing Soundgarden's status as one of the most prominent alternative rock acts of the 1990s.
In addition to his work with Soundgarden, Cameron has collaborated with a variety of artists, including his appearance on the 'Temple of the Dog' album in 1991, a tribute to the late Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood. He also featured on the soundtrack to the film Singles (1992),which showcased the Seattle Grunge scene.
Following Soundgarden's disbandment, Cameron temporarily joined The Smashing Pumpkins and Queens of the Stone Age before replacing Jack Irons as the drummer for Pearl Jam during the 1998 'Yield Tour', a position he has maintained since.
Throughout his career, Cameron has supported prominent acts such as Guns N' Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and has contributed to numerous movie soundtracks, including Pacific Heights (1990),Pump Up the Volume (1990),Wayne's World (1992),True Romance (1993),Big Fish (2003),and Reign Over Me (2007).
Cameron has also collaborated with notable musicians such as Tony Iommi and Peter Frampton. He currently resides outside Seattle with his wife, April Acevez, and their two children, Ray and Josie.
In recent years, Cameron has reformed with Soundgarden and continues to play drums for Pearl Jam, while also pursuing solo projects. He was featured in the Pearl Jam Twenty (2011) documentary, which showcased the band's history and legacy.
