Matthew's journey began after starring in his third Mighty Ducks film, when he bid farewell to the glamorous life to pursue his passion for writing and theater at Northwestern University. His impressive credentials include being a Nicholl Academy Screenplay Semi-Finalist, AFF second rounder, Screencraft and Final Draft Big Break Semi Finalist, and former moderator of a prestigious L.A. Writer's lab.
As a seasoned writer, Matthew has ghost-written for Academy Award-nominated directors and facilitates writing groups in residential treatment facilities. His work has been showcased at The Antaeus Theater's Lab Series, IAMA, Rogue Machine, The Road, and the esteemed Actor's Studio. His script, House Across The Street, was a finalist for the BPP Woodward Newman award, and Persuasion is currently under consideration for Berkley Rep's Ground Floor.
When not indulging in his love for writing, Matthew can be found in the mountains or on skates. His true passion lies in crafting roles for world-class interpreters and entertaining audiences with the absurdity and heartbreak of living in a world where institutions are failing. His writing journey began when he returned to his high school in South Suburban Chicago after filming the Mighty Ducks and asked the principal if he could study the differences between satire and tragedy in the plots of "Fail Safe" and "Dr. Strangelove" and direct a production of a Gore Vidal satire as an independent study course.
Through exhaustive research in the school library, Matthew concluded that he wanted to combine tragedy and satire by making audiences laugh before pulling the rug out from under them. This inspiration has driven his writing ever since, and he continues to strive for this goal. Although he still enjoys acting, Matthew is grateful to have the opportunity to do so when his schedule permits, as long as it doesn't conflict with keeping up with his beloved White Sox between takes.
