Matt Mercurio is a theatrically trained, award-winning actor who has achieved significant recognition in his field. As a national finalist of the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship and recipient of the American College Theatre Festival's Marvin Sims Diversity Award in Acting, his talent and dedication have been acknowledged and celebrated.
As a first-generation American, Matt's upbringing was shaped by his parents' military background and the strong emphasis they placed on education. Growing up in a hardworking immigrant, family Matt was instilled with a strong work ethic and an expectation of pursuing a traditional career path.
However, Matt's childhood was also marked by a passion for the unconventional. He spent part of his youth aspiring to be a professional wrestler, and the rest dreaming of becoming an actor. This dichotomy has resulted in an inherent theatricality and playful spirit that has driven his artistic ambitions.
Matt's middle school years were marked by class-clown antics and a knack for mischief, which often landed him in the school office for disciplinary action. However, administrators encouraged him to channel his energy into something more creative, and Matt excelled in acting from the outset. Film and theatre soon became his passions, consuming his pursuits and shaping his dreams.
Matt's formal training in acting began at Florida State College's Theatre Performance program, where he was awarded a full-time performance talent scholarship. He then went on to study at the BFA Acting program at the University of Florida's School of Theatre and Dance, also on a full scholarship.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Matt was also an Acting Apprentice and company member at the Tony Award-winning Williamstown Theatre Festival, further honing his craft and gaining valuable experience in the industry. Throughout his journey, Matt has consistently demonstrated a commitment to his craft, a passion for storytelling, and a dedication to his art.
