Matt Wells is a multifaceted Canadian creative force, born in the vibrant city of St. John's, Newfoundland, with a passion for storytelling through various mediums.
His early days were marked by his stint as the lead singer and songwriter of the notorious Newfoundland punk/hardcore band Bucket Truck, releasing four albums, ten self-produced music videos, and touring the world alongside renowned acts such as Slayer, Damage Plan, Fishbone, and Lagwagon. This formative experience ultimately led him to pursue a career as a music and film journalist for prominent outlets like Much Music, The New Music, Bravo, and MTV, where he has interviewed an impressive array of talent, including The Police, Quentin Tarantino, Lee Daniels, John Lydon, Lou Reed, Mariah Carey, Ben Kingsley, Zack Snyder, and Lady Gaga.
As a solo musician, Matt has released two albums and shared the stage with notable artists such as Sammy Hagar, Levon Helm, and Great Big Sea. His acting credits include appearances in popular television shows like Designated Survivor, Schitt's Creek, and Murdoch Mysteries, as well as the critically acclaimed short film "Poison in the Water," which he co-wrote with his daughter.
Matt's most recent project, the short film "The New Normal," won the prestigious Best International Comedy award at the 2021 Venice Film Awards and has been selected for screenings at both the London International Film Festival and the Berlin Flash Film Festival.
