Matthew made a notable appearance on Amazon's political satire "Alpha House", starring the talented John Goodman, where he took on the role of a Colonel and former team captain of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's men's basketball team, the Tar Heels. This character was coached by John Goodman's character for an extended period of time, prior to Matthew's character's successful transition to a senator, a position that held immense personal significance for him, given his unwavering dedication and allegiance to the Tar Heels.
