Matt Okine is a multi-talented actor, writer, and presenter who has made a significant impact in the Australian entertainment industry. With over 15 years of experience in the industry, he has appeared on screens and stages around Australia and the world.
Prior to his current focus on production, Matt spent three years co-hosting the popular Triple J radio show, Breakfast, before moving on to work on the television adaptation of his award-winning semi-autobiographical stand-up show, The Other Guy. He co-wrote and starred in the show, which aired on STAN in 2017 and earned him an AACTA nomination for Subscription TV Best New Talent.
Matt has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release, the Melbourne Comedy Festival's Director's Choice Award, and the Best Newcomer Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, which he shared with Ronny Chieng. He has also been nominated for Best Comedy Performer at the Helpmann Awards.
In addition to his work in television, Matt has appeared in several films, including H2O: Just Add Water, Aquamarine, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and the upcoming ABC production, Stateless. He is also the host of the ABC cooking show, Shortcuts to Glory.
Matt's debut novel, Being Black N Chicken & Chips, has just been published by Hachette Australia. This heartwarming coming-of-age novel is based on his 2012 live show, which earned him his Best Newcomer Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and also a Best Newcomer Nomination at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. A film adaptation of his novel is currently in development with Wooden Horse and the Oscar-nominated production team at Aquarius Films.
