Matthew Charles Porretta was born on May 29th, 1965, in the charming town of Darien, Connecticut, USA, to a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry. His father, Frank II, is a classically trained opera singer and a seasoned actor, while his mother, Roberta, is also a trained singer and was crowned Miss Ohio in 1956. With show business in his blood, Matthew wasted no time in pursuing his passion, and by the age of 25, he was already a seasoned Broadway veteran and a student at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music.
In 1990, Matthew made his television debut with recurring roles on popular shows such as Wings and Beverly Hills, 90210. Two years later, he landed his first major movie role, playing the iconic character Will Scarlet O'Hara in Mel Brooks' hilarious spoof, Robin Hood: Men in Tights. In a remarkable twist of fate, Matthew would later star as Robin Hood in his own television series, just four years later.
Since 1997, Matthew has appeared in numerous independent films and has been featured in commercials for well-known brands such as McDonald's and Arrowhead Water. His four siblings have also followed in his footsteps, with his brother Frank III becoming an internationally recognized opera singer, his brother Greg guest-starring alongside Matthew on television, and his sisters Anna and Roberta dabbling in the industry as well. Anna, in particular, has made a name for herself as a writer for the popular television show Talk Soup.
