Matthew Stephen Tompkins is an accomplished American actor, born in Washington D.C. and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He has had a successful career in theater, film, and television, with over 50 feature films, 80 TV roles, and over 100 professional plays to his credit.
Matthew's passion for acting began at a young age, inspired by his parents' love of cinema and literature. He started writing and directing Super 8 films in his neighborhood by the age of 10, projecting them on the wall of his childhood home for his family and friends to enjoy.
After studying acting at the university level, Matthew began playing leading roles in various plays and traveling with the Theater Department Improv Group, Players 5. He also wrote and directed two student-written productions at his alma mater, Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.
Matthew's early career saw him living and working in New York City, where he performed with the Off-Broadway Cooper Square Theater and the Playlab Studio Theater. He also audited acting classes with the late Bill Hickey and Uta Hagen at HB Studios.
Matthew's entrance into professional TV and film work came with recurring roles on shows like Walker, Texas Ranger, Prison Break, and the Peabody and Emmy-winning PBS Children's show, Wishbone. He was initially represented by the late Peggy Taylor, one of the first and most well-known Franchised Talent Agents in the Southwest.
After Mrs. Taylor's passing, Matthew was represented by the Kim Dawson Talent Agency and the Mary Collins Agency, and continued to work steadily in episodic TV, made-for-TV movies, feature films, and national commercials. He has also had a successful career in professional theater, winning the Dallas/Ft.Worth Theater Critics Forum Award for Outstanding Actor seven times between 1993 and 2009.
Recent highlights from Matthew's theater work include reprising his role as Nelson Algren in the Off-Broadway run of Transatlantic Liaison at the Harold Clurman Theater, and playing Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream for the Regional Tony Award-winning Dallas Theater Center.
In film, Matthew has appeared in projects such as Parkland, Sicario, 11-22-63, Crypto, and Hooking Up, and has co-produced several films through his production company, Wolfclan Productions. He is currently working on several new film slates and a Victorian science fiction/steampunk television series, The Mechanical Grave.
Matthew has been married to Shauna McLean Tompkins since 2006 and they have two children together. He is currently represented by the Linda McAlister Talent Agency.
