Melanie Chisholm was born on January 12th, 1974, in Merseyside, England, and rose to fame as a member of the iconic pop group Spice Girls in 1994. The group's three albums went on to sell over 40 million copies worldwide, with nine singles reaching number one in the UK.
Melanie's first solo album, "Northern Star", was released on October 18th, 1999, and initially peaked at number 10 on the UK charts. Although it eventually dropped down the charts, the album went on to sell triple platinum in the UK, peaking at number 4 on its re-release in August 2000. The album has sold around 3 million copies worldwide, with 900,000 copies sold in the UK alone.
The album's success was marked by a remarkable Top 75 chart run, demonstrating Melanie's growing reputation as a solo artist. Her second album, "Reason", was released on March 10th, 2003, and reached number 5 on the UK chart, selling 30,500 copies in its first week. Although it didn't match the success of "Northern Star", "Reason" has been certified Gold in the UK, with 80,000 copies sold.
In January 2004, Melanie's record label, Virgin Records, released "Reason" at a discounted price, but it was still outsold by "Northern Star" at the same price. After the failure of "Melt/Yeh Yeh Yeh", Melanie parted ways with Virgin Records and decided to release her third solo album, "Beautiful Intentions", on her own label, Red Girl Records.
The album was released in 2005, following the single "Next Best Superstar", which reached number 10 on the UK singles chart. Melanie will release her next single, "Better Alone", in July.
