Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Mr. Washington is a renowned actor, widely recognized for his standout performances in various television shows and stage productions.
He is perhaps best known for his breakout role as Donald Jordan in the hit NBC comedy 30 Rock, as well as his appearances in the third season of Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt alongside Titus Burgess.
In addition to his television credits, which include Glee, Law & Order, The Jury, 100 Questions, 10 Things I Hate About You, Wendell & Vinny, and Hope and Faith, among others, Mr. Washington has also had a successful stage career.
He was a member of the original Broadway company of the international mega-hit Mamma Mia!, and he has also appeared in the 2005 Tony Award-winning revival of La Cage Aux Folles and Stephen Sondheim's Saturday Night at Second Stage.
Mr. Washington has worked with several prominent directors and companies, including Des MacAnuff at La Jolla Playhouse, where he has appeared in productions such as The Wiz, Memphis, Letters to Obama, and Most Wanted.
One of his most notable projects is his political drama, Blueprints to Freedom: an Ode to Bayard Rustin, which tells the story of the openly gay Civil Rights icon and his role in the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
The play had successful developmental workshops at the McCarter Theatre and La Jolla Playhouse, and it received its world premiere co-productions at La Jolla Playhouse and Kansas City Repertory Theatre in 2015.
Mr. Washington's performance as Bayard Rustin earned him several awards, including the Edgerton Foundation Award for Outstanding New American Play and the San Diego Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Leading Actor in a Play.
He is currently working on a stage play about Dr. Maya Angelou at the request of her estate and The Caged Bird Foundation, and he has also appeared in the feature film Love and Other Drugs alongside Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Mr. Washington holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he also minored in Journalism. He is a Presidential Scholar in the Arts and serves as a National Reviewer and Masterclass instructor for the National YoungArts Foundation.
In addition to his acting career, Mr. Washington is a member of the Broadway Inspirational Voices and has been involved with various charitable organizations throughout his career.
