Biography

Michael James Scott was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and spent his childhood in Orlando, Florida. He has gained widespread recognition for his captivating performances as "The Genie" in Disney's Aladdin on Broadway and internationally, as well as his notable television roles on Black Monday and South Park.

Michael's illustrious career began as the standby for the legendary Ben Vereen in the international tour of Fosse, taking over the role in Paris at the renowned Théâtre du Châtelet. Since then, he has appeared in numerous Broadway productions, originating the role of the "The Minstrel" in Something Rotten and Dr. Gotswana (aka The Guy with the Maggot Problem) in the Tony-winning smash hit, The Book of Mormon. His extensive Broadway credits also include Mamma Mia, Tarzan, All Shook Up, The Pirate Queen, Elf, and Hair.

Throughout his career, Michael has made numerous television and film appearances, including "The Carrie Diaries" on The CW, Independent Woman, a feature film, "The View" on ABC, "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" on NBC, "The Late Show with Conan O'Brien" on NBC, "Good Morning America" on ABC, "The Today Show" on NBC, "The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" on CBS, and "The TONY Awards" on CBS.

In 2020, Michael released his debut holiday album, A Fierce Christmas, as a "joyful protest" to a difficult year. He performed songs from the album on various outlets, including Good Morning America's "What You Need To Know" Christmas day special.

Michael is married to filmmaker Jeremy Merrifield, and they split their time between New York and Los Angeles.
