Michael Lawrence's professional journey began with his breakthrough role as Executive Producer/Producer of the highly successful documentary film Bra Boys (2007),which he co-created with Russell Crowe. This was followed by another critically acclaimed feature documentary, Fighting Fear (2011),which he collaborated on with Joel Edgerton. The documentary won multiple AACTA awards and showcased Lawrence's exceptional storytelling abilities.
Lawrence's subsequent projects included the TV series The Crew (2013-2015),which was commissioned by Fox Sports and The Nine Network and resulted in three complete seasons with 36 episodes, sold in over 35 countries. He also created, executive produced, and produced several story-driven documentaries, including 'Missing' (2013),You & Me (2016),and Proximity (2017).
While producing these films and TV properties, Lawrence co-founded Garage Entertainment with long-time business partner Nicholas Cook. Garage Entertainment became the largest distributor of Action Adventure content in the world, with its own SVOD platform and linear TV channel, and was successfully sold in 2015 for an undisclosed amount.
In 2016, Lawrence collaborated with Peter Berg and his factual production company (Film 45) to executive produce the Factual TV series Uncensored with Michael Ware (2017) for National Geographic, which aired in 170 countries in 30 languages.
From 2016 to 2021, Lawrence produced numerous film and TV programs, including 'Save This Shark' (starring World Surfing Champion Mick Fanning),nominated in the Newport Beach Film Festival and Oceanside International Film Festival; 'Save This Rhino' (starring Kevin Pietersen - former English Cricket Captain),winning both the Monolith Award and Lumiere Awards; 'Save This Rhino - India' (also starring Kevin Pietersen),which won the Asian Academy Creative Awards for Best Natural History and Wildlife Show, and Best Current Affairs Program; 'MuM (Misunderstandings of Miscarriage)' and 'Here For The Horses'.
In 2022, Lawrence was again nominated for an AACTA Award (Best Mini Series) for the TV drama 'Barons' (8 episodes),in conjunction with FremantleMedia and the ABC. In 2024, he is set to launch the feature documentary 'Skategoat' at the Sydney Film Festival, while also developing several factual and drama-based programs.
