Michael MacLennan's remarkable journey in the world of playwrighting began with his debut play "Beat The Sunset", which earned him the prestigious Jessie Richardson Award for outstanding emerging playwright and the Theatrum National Playwriting Award. His subsequent plays, "The Shooting Stage" and "Last Romantics", also received critical acclaim, winning the Voaden Prize and being nominated for the Governor General's Award. The commissioned play "Life After God", adapted from Douglas Coupland's short story, was a notable success, followed by his sixth published play, "The Good Egg". Additionally, he has collaborated with renowned composer Jeffrey Ryan on two operas.
As a screenwriter, MacLennan has been nominated for the WGC Canadian Screenwriting Award a remarkable seven times. He began his screenwriting career as Writer and Story Editor for two seasons of CBC's "Wind At My Back", before taking on the role of showrunner for PBS's "Anne of Green Gables" series and the BBC/TV series "Super Rupert". He also co-executive produced and wrote 14 episodes of Showtime/Showcase's "Queer As Folk". MacLennan co-created, executive produced, and showran City TV's flagship dramatic series "Godiva's", and has written pilots for American networks CBS, ABC, and Showtime. His notable collaborations include the CBC series "jPod" with Douglas Coupland, and the CBS/CTV series "Flashpoint" as Consulting Producer.
