Elliott's existence commenced on July 17, 1946, in Sunderland, a city situated in the northeastern region of England, where his initial years were characterized by his enrollment at St Cuthbert's RC Primary in Grindon, a neighborhood within Sunderland. This primary educational institution laid the foundation for his subsequent academic pursuits.
As he progressed through his formative years, Elliott continued his education at St Aiden's RC Grammar School in Ashbrook, another Sunderland neighborhood. The rigorous curriculum and structured environment of this grammar school further honed his intellectual abilities and prepared him for the challenges that lay ahead.
Following the completion of his formal education, Elliott embarked on a career as an English teacher at Dyke House School, a prominent educational institution in Hartlepool.
