Mike Portnoy, a renowned American drummer, songwriter, and producer, was born on April 20, 1967, in Long Island, New York, USA.
He co-founded the progressive metal band Dream Theater in 1985, alongside guitarist John Petrucci and bassist John Myung, during their time at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.
After dedicating 25 years to the band, Portnoy decided to leave Dream Theater in 2010 and pursue a diverse range of projects and collaborations, including stints with Adrenaline Mob, Avenged Sevenfold, The Winery Dogs, Sons of Apollo, and The Neal Morse Band.
