Miley Ray Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus on November 23, 1992, in Franklin, Tennessee, and raised in Thompson's Station, Tennessee, is the daughter of Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus. She has five siblings, consisting of two half-brothers, a half-sister, and a younger brother and sister.
Destiny Hope was named by her parents, who had hoped she would achieve greatness, and her childhood nickname Smiley, due to her cheerful disposition, was eventually shortened to Miley. Her paternal grandfather, Ron Cyrus, was a Democratic politician.
Miley's early education took place at Heritage Elementary School in Tennessee, but when she turned eight, her family relocated to Toronto, Canada, where her father Billy Ray took a role in the TV series Doc in 2001. This was around the time Miley decided she wanted to act as well. She made her acting debut alongside her father in Doc and later scored a small role in Tim Burton's Big Fish in 2003.
In 2005, Miley was cast as the lead in the Disney series Hannah Montana, which premiered in 2006, about a teenager leading a double life as a pop star. Her father Billy Ray also acted alongside her in the show. The series was a massive success, leading to hit records, sell-out tours, and merchandising deals, and Miley became a teen superstar.
Following the success of Hannah Montana, Miley expanded her acting career, playing Ronnie Miller in The Last Song in 2010 and Lola in LOL alongside Demi Moore in 2012.
